Die DDR-(N)ostalgie der Ostdeutschen ist seit der Wiedervereinigung immer wieder Gegenstand des öffentlichen-medialen und wissenschaftlichen Diskurses. Die vorliegende Arbeit will durch Analysen des Niveaus, der Determinanten, der Entwicklung und der politischen Korrelate dieses Phänomens einen empirisch fundierten Beitrag zu der bisher stark normativ geprägten Debatte leisten. Insgesamt betrachtet lässt sich Zeitraum 1990 bis 2004 ein beachtliches bis hohes Maß an positiven Retrospektivbewertungen der DDR durch die Ostdeutschen nachweisen. Das Niveau von DDR-Nostalgie differiert allerdings in Bezug auf die jeweils betrachtete measurement der positiven Orientierungen der neuen Bundesbürger gegenüber der ehemaligen DDR. Die examine der politischen Konnotationen zeigt, dass in der zeitlichen Perspektive alles in allem keine generelle Depolitisierung der positiven Orientierungen der Ostdeutschen gegenüber der ehemaligen DDR ermittelt werden kann. Im Hinblick auf den Stand der inneren Einheit und das politisch-kulturelle Zusammenwachsen von Ost- und Westdeutschland zeigt sich, dass der Einigungsprozess und der Prozess der demokratischen Konsolidierung Ostdeutschlands als langfristige Projekte betrachtet werden müssen, die noch lange nicht abgeschlossen sind.
